Nikkei have developed data access options
to fulfill the requirements of its wide range of clients. Subscription clients
can receive regular data files via FTP (BULK/FDS) or CD-ROM (CD-ROM/MT), or they can
access NEEDS directly using an Internet-based interface (FinancialQUEST). For
clients who do not require a continuous service, but have an ad-hoc data
requirement, orders for specific historical data can be fulfilled using the
SPOT service.

NEEDS-BULK/FDS transmits large amounts of NEEDS data directly to the clients system using Internet FTP. This single batch transmission service delivers the latest data in specialized fields, particularly in financial and monetary areas such as stocks and bonds, and corporate finance, directly to the customer's computer, to assist daily back office tasks, and to upgrade in-house databases.

NEEDS-Financial QUEST is an on-demand type service that enables the user to search the vast quantity of numerical data stored in the central database of NEEDS, and download it quickly, via the Internet, straight to his or her own Windows PC. This easy-to-use software provides small scale research teams and fund-managers without IT knowledge,access to the NEEDS database.

NEEDS-CDROM service delivers NEEDS data on a magnetic tape (CMT, 8mm, 4mm) and CD-ROM, to the user's system for use as part of the customer's in-house database. In addition to the periodic update service, data from past years can also be accessed.
