| Q. Who are Nikkei NEEDS customers? |
A. NEEDS is currently used by all major Japanese banks; a true indication of its service. The quality of NEEDS data, the power of its IT infrastructure, and its wealth of expertise have made it the local choice. Furthermore over 95% of foreign-affiliated securities companies trading in Japan, use NEEDS.
| Q. What are the advantages of NEEDS financial statement data? |
A. Nikkei compiles both
1) Tanshin "Flash" data, and
2) "Yuho" Annual Reports
as well as Nikkei's 'Questionnaires' which are collected from each company.
NEEDS "Flash" data is published by the next-day basis (as it takes up to 1 business-day to input this data into the NEEDS database).
"Yuho" Annual Reports are available after approximately 3-4 months. (Most large companies work with the March accounting period, and thus the relevant data is released around the beginning of July as they are input into the NEEDS database).
| Q. Which code is used in NEEDS database? |
A. NEEDS mainly uses 2 types of code - one is the "Security Code" ( 4-digit or Quick Code), organized by the Security Code Conference in Japan. This is used for listed companies. The other code is the Nikkei Company Code (Nikkei's original code system) , which is used for both listed and unlisted companies.
To keep historical consistency, we use the Nikkei Code as the primary key and store the "Security Code" as an attribute. We also have an ISIN code for specific fixed incomes and equities.
